Sydney Sixers skipper Moises Henriques is all set to play the final of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 despite being COVID-19 positive. The final of the league is slated to take place on Wednesday (January 24) between Sixers and Brisbane Heat.
The development related to Moises Henriques contracting Covid 19 was revealed by Sydney Sixers on Wednesday. However, they confirmed that the all-rounder will take the field in the final but will have to take the precautionary measures on the ground.
Moises Henriques will have to maintain distance from teammates on the field and also in the dressing room. The all-rounder will have to sit separately in the dugout while waiting for his batting. There have been several cases of COVID-19 in the Australia Cricket Team as well. All-rounders Travis Head and Cameron Green along with head coach Andrew McDonald are affected by the virus.
Releasing the official statement about Moises Henriques, Sydney Sixers confirmed that the opposition team along with match officials and broadcasters have been informed about the development. He stated that the all-rounder will be in no doubt to play. The statement read:
“Sixers players and staff, the Brisbane Heat, match officials and broadcast/media have been informed so they can determine appropriate action. Henriques is in no doubt to take his place in the BBL13 Final.”
This, however, will not be the first time when a player with Covid Positive will take the field. Female cricketers Tahlia McGrath took the field in the Commonwealth Games gold medal match against India in Birmingham in 2023 despite battling COVID-19. Apart from her, Matt Renshaw also played in a Test match against South Africa after he contracted the virus midway in the game.
The final of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) is underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Sydney Sixers won the toss and opted to field first. Brisbane Heat lost keeper Jimmy Peirson (4) early but after that, Josh Brown and Nathan McSweeney have played crucial roles for the team and are making sure that they keep the team in the hunt.

Moises Henriques will be eager to play a key role with the bat in the ongoing final of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24. He has been decent for the team in the ongoing tournament. The all-rounder played a crucial in the Qualifier that powered his team to the home final.
