On Sunday, September 8, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the India squad for the first Test of the home series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, and Shreyas Iyer was not included in the team. Shreyas Iyer recently made his comeback to the Indian ODI team on the Sri Lanka tour after being snubbed from the BCCI central contracts. He failed to impress with his performances and returned with scores of 23, 7, and 8 in three ODI matches. Even after he failed in the Sri Lanka ODIs, it was expected that Shreyas Iyer would make it to the Indian Test squad for the Bangladesh series, considering his records and performances at home. Also, Shreyas Iyer was grinding hard to make a Test comeback and was named the captain of India D in the first round of Duleep Trophy 2024. In the match against India C, Shreyas Iyer registered scores of 9 and 54, which didn't seem to impress the Indian selectors. Shreyas Iyer was last seen in action in whites for the India National Cricket Team in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, and after that, he was left out of the squad for the remaining three Test matches. There were conflicting reports at that time about Iyer's exclusion from the squad, with some claiming that he was dropped after registering poor scores of 35, 13, 27, and 29 in the first two Tests, while others claimed that he wasn't fit enough and was facing back issues. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India selectors have also dropped Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal from the Test squad. Notably, the duo played the home Tests against England earlier in the year. Iyer has overall played 14 matches for India in the purest format of the game and has scored 811 runs at an average of 36.86, with one century and five half-centuries. As he was snubbed from the squad, fans on X reacted to it with some bashing BCCI for this move. Here's How Fans Reacted To Shreyas Iyer's Snub:
