The nominees for ICC Player of the Month for February 2022 have been announced and star Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been included in the list.
Iyer had an extraordinary run in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The Indian middle-order batsman got the opportunity to bat at No.3 in the home T20I series in the absence of Virat Kohli, who was rested, and he batted remarkably well, scoring 204 runs in three games at a strike rate of 174.35 to win the ‘Player of the Series award. Notably, he smashed three unbeaten half-centuries in the series.

Also, Iyer had smashed a Player of the Match-winning 80 runs against West Indies in the final ODI of the three-match ODI series, and a 16-ball 25 in the third and final T20I of the three-match T20I series against the West Indies.
The other two nominees are UAE’s Vriitya Aravind and Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee. Vriitya played a major role in his team’s entry in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 by performing brilliantly well in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A. In the five games in Qualifier A, he smashed 267 runs at an average of 89.00 and a strike rate of 154.33.
Meanwhile, Dipendra Singh Airee scored 159 runs and bagged three wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A in Oman and helped his team finish third in the standings.
Two Indian Women’s Amongst The ICC Player Of The Month Nominees
Two Indian players have been nominated for the ICC Women’s Player Of The Month for February 2022 along with New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, who has been having a sensational run in cricket lately.
Kerr, in the ODI series against India, emerged as the leading run-scorer. Also, she was the joint-highest wicket-taker for her team alongside her sister Jess Kerr.
Player of the Series award winner Amelia Kerr scored 353 runs at an average of 117.66 and strike-rate of 97.51, including three fifties and a hundred in the five-match series. Also, she bagged 7 wickets at an economy of 5.78.
Meanwhile, the two Indian nominees are Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma. Raj scored 232 runs, including three fifties, at an average of 77.33 and strike rate of 82.56 in the series against New Zealand and finished as India’s highest run-scorer. On the other hand, Deepti Sharma, picked 10 wickets, including a four-for, in the series and scored 116 runs in the five games.
