India National Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer is all set to feature for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu tournament. The batter will be playing alongside his Indian teammate Suryakumar Yadav, who recently made himself available for the tournament, expressing his desire to play for India in Tests.

Both Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav will be seen in action together for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu tournament, organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, against Jammu and Kashmir. The match between the teams is all set to take place from Tuesday (27th August) at the Coimbatore.

Mumbai Cricket Association confirms Shreyas Iyer will play Buchi Babu tournament

Mumbai Cricket Association joint secretary Deepak Patil revealed that Shreyas Iyer will be part of the Mumbai team against Jammu and Kashmir at the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament. Speaking in an official statement, he explained:

"Shreyas Iyer will play for Mumbai at the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. He will be playing vs Jammu & Kashmir from 27th August at Coimbatore."

Shreyas Iyer playing the red ball will be a massive opportunity for him to reclaim his spot back in the Indian team. He was dropped from the team after the two Tests against England, having bagged a series of low scores in the last few games and his poor record in overseas games.

Iyer replaced Ajinkya Rahane in the Indian Test team and he started his career on high, slamming a century on the debut. The right-hander then was consistent but after that, he couldn't set the stage on fire in the overseas tours and was dropped from the team.

Iyer would be keen to make a huge impact in the game against Jammu and Kashmir in the Buchi Babu tournament. With the India National Cricket Team set to play quite a few Test games, he would be keeping an eye on that and would want to make a comeback in the team.

Iyer was dropped after returning with scores of 35, 13, 27, and 29 in the first two Tests against England National Cricket Team. Overall, he has scored 811 runs in 14 Tests at an average of 38.86, including one century and five 50s.

He will be playing alongside Suryakumar Yadav, who has been recently appointed as the captain of the Indian T20I team. But the right-hander recently stated that he wants to play for the team in three formats and playing the Buchi Babu tournament will help him to make his case strong for the Test team.

Suryakumar Yadav has played one Test for the India National Cricket Team. He made his debut against the Australia National Cricket Team but couldn't set the stage on fire. He too would be keen to make a massive impact in the Buchi Babu tournament to make his case strong for India's selection. With Gautam Gambhir being the new head coach, it remains to be seen what will be the future of both the players in Tests.
