The dream to represent the India National Cricket Team in Tests again is all set to be shattered for Shreyas Iyer. As per News24 journalist Vaibhav Bhola, it is learned that the right-hander is unlikely to be picked in the red-ball format for the England series.

The journalist claimed that the Gautam Gambhir-led Indian team management believes that Shreyas Iyer can't play short balls and hence he won't be picked. India are all set to lock horns with the England National Cricket Team in the five-match Test series.

There have been a lot of rumours about Shreyas Iyer getting picked in the Indian Test squad

For the past few weeks, there have been a lot of rumours about Shreyas Iyer getting picked in the Indian Test squad for the England series. This is because of the kind of form that he has been in international cricket as well as in the domestic circuit for Mumbai.

Shreyas Iyer played a fantastic role for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy as well. The right-hander played an aggressive brand of cricket even in the red-ball format and made sure that he helped his team win the crucial games in the tournament, and also the Irani Cup.

Based on his sensational outing with the bat in domestic cricket, Iyer made a dominating comeback in the India National Cricket Team as well. He played a massive role for the side in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win as he was the leading run-getter in the tournament for his team.

Iyer last played for India in Tests during the England series at home in 2024

Coming to his Test career, Iyer last represented the India National Cricket Team in whites during the England series at home in 2024. After that, he was dropped due to his weakness against short balls. The batter overall has a decent record in red-ball cricket and would be keen to come back.

Iyer has played 14 Test matches for India and has scored 811 runs at an average of over 36. He also has hit five fifties and one century, which he slammed in his debut game against the New Zealand National Cricket Team in Kanpur, and after that, he played some match-winning knocks for the team.

Shreyas Iyer is having a terrific time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025

Iyer, however, worked on his technique of playing short balls and has aced that challenge as well. It was evident during the home ODI series against England, in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and now the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where he is leading the Punjab Kings.

Iyer is having a terrific time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The batter has played 12 games in the tournament so far and has hit 405 runs at a strike rate of over 180 and an average of over 50. The Punjab Kings skipper has also slammed four half-centuries.
