Shubman Gill is seen by many as the next flagbearer of Indian cricket. With the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma arguably in the twilight phase of their career, Indian cricket needs a new leader and Shubman Gill is considered by many as the potential candidate.

The youngster has made a promising start to his international career. After starring in India’s victorious campaign at the U19 World Cup in 2018, he made his debut for the senior team in 2019 and is now an integral part of the team across all three formats.

The right-handed batsman has scored over 3000 runs in international cricket with the help of 9 centuries and 18 half-centuries. He has also scored a double century in ODIs and a century in T20Is. Earlier this year, Shubman Gill was the highest run-scorer in the IPL as well, as he scored a staggering 890 runs in 17 games with the help of 3 centuries and 4 half-centuries.

Shubman Gill very fit and skillful:

Shubman Gill has not only impressed with his batting but also his fitness. And while only time will tell how his career progresses, it won’t be wrong to say that he is clearly on the right path. Ankit Kaliyar, a strength and conditioning coach with the BCCI, has heaped praise on the opening batsman and hailed him as a fit as well as a skillful player.

The former state-level cricketer also disclosed that the India youngster is inspired by none other than Virat Kohli and follows him to improve his batting as well as fitness. He also backed the Punjab star to do well for India in the years to come.

“Shubman is very fit. Not just fit, he is a very skillful player. There is no doubt that Shubman is inspired by Virat bhai. Be it batting, fitness, or skill, Shubman is following Virat bhai. I am sure Shubman will be doing well for the country in the coming years,” Kaliyar told the Times of India.

Shubman Gill is currently in South Africa and is a part of the T20I and the Test series. The T20I series got underway on Sunday (December 10) but the first match was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.
