Shubman Gill emerged as India's star during the team's opening match of the tournament against Bangladesh. Gill scored a magnificent century that deflated Bangladesh's bowlers and helped India to a crucial victory.

However, Gill's next opponent won't be easy. He will face Pakistan's skilled fast bowling where his temperament will be tested. Ahead of the highly anticipated clash, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir feels that Gill is batting well because of Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are India's openers at the moment and have been India's opening duo in the format for the last few years. While Rohit has looked to be aggressive, Gill has preferred to play the role of an anchor.

Shubman Gill is performing well because of Rohit Sharma: Mohammad Amir

While speaking during a show 'Hasna Mana Hai' on Geo News, Mohammad Amir lauded Shubman Gill for his match-winning knock against Bangladesh. Amir claimed that India's captain Rohit Sharma is not allowing the pressure to turn on Gill by playing an attacking brand of cricket.

"Look at how Shubman Gill is dominating the fast bowlers. Rohit Sharma is not allowing the pressure to come up to him. He is himself taking all the pressure. You can even see in the 2023 World Cup when he took charge against the new ball himself," Amir said on the show.

"He said that he would lead from the front. He is not allowing the pressure to come on the youngsters. He is stepping out and going on the back foot to hit the ball. He is taking the pressure of the new ball while Shubman can take his time," he added.

Rohit Sharma used to score big in the initial part of his ODI career and was known to score big hundreds. However, he has become more selfless in his approach now and is looking to be more aggressive at the top.

The move worked wonderfully in the 2023 ODI World Cup where Rohit scored 597 runs in 11 matches at an average of 54.27 and a blistering strike rate of 125.94. Rohit emerged as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament behind Virat Kohli and helped India reach the final.

Mohammad Amir hails Rohit Sharma's selfless approach

Further speaking in the same video, Mohammad Amir analysed Rohit Sharma's dismissal against Bangladesh. He feels that the Indian captain could have scored a half-century quite easily but still decided to risk his wicket in an attempt to put pressure on the opposition.

"Even today (against Bangladesh), he was out while trying to hit the ball. He (Rohit Sharma) could have completed his fifty easily. There was no need to hit the ball in which he got out," Amir observed.

"When your senior players take responsibility for taking the youngsters with them and how to settle them, it is the responsibility of every senior player within a team. This is why Shubman Gill is playing so well," he noted.

Shubman Gill takes India to win

Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 101 off 129 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes against Bangladesh. The opener completed his hundred off 125 balls which is the slowest hundred by an Indian since the 2019 ODI World Cup.

While India were in a spot of bother at one point, Gill ensured to stay till the end to see his side home. Skipper Rohit Sharma gave India a good start at the top with a quickfire 41 off 36 balls with 7 fours.
