Likely before the onset of the Asia Cup, India Test captain Shubman Gill, who was recently known to be suffering from a viral flu, will be heading to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to undergo a few fitness tests, while several others have already knocked on the CoE doors, as per TOI.
After a toiling series in England, followed by a month off from the game, the Indian cricketers, including Shubman Gill, according to the rules of the BCCI, would have to take a fitness test to ensure their availability for selection in the upcoming events.
Moreover, many others have also arrived at the CoE to get their fitness checked ahead of the much-awaited Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to begin on the 9th of September, and so the players are expected to leave the country by next week.
Shubman Gill is likely to check in at CoE before the Asia Cup
Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill has been named in the Asia Cup squad, which made headlines for his comeback in the T20I side, and he was also named the vice-captain of the side.
He was detected with a viral flu, due to which he was ruled out of the opening game for the Duleep Trophy, which is scheduled to begin on the 28th of August. The Times of India sources have learned that there was nothing serious in his blood report, and hence, Shubman Gill would return to full-tilt training soon.
The illness didn't allow the 25-year-old to ensure his participation in the Duleep Trophy, as a result of which the North Zone side would now be led by Shubman Gill's deputy, the vice-captain Ankit Kumar, against East Zone in the opening game of the domestic season.
Other Players under fitness check at the CoE after the India vs England Test series
Some other players who also came from the series in England include the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Sai Sudharsan. Sudharsan was part of the playing XI in the three Test matches in the series but is not part of the Asia Cup squad.
Kuldeep and Arshdeep, on the other hand, did not play a single game in England, hence increasing their gap since their last international appearance. Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Sai Sudharsan have been doing their routine fitness training, while Mohammed Siraj is also expected to join CoE anytime soon.
Sudharsan needs to aim for fitness ahead of the squad selections for the home series against the West Indies. Hardik Pandya was also at the CoE alongside Shreyas Iyer to check on his fitness and is now practicing in Baroda before setting off for Asia Cup.
Rishabh Pant might also start his rehabilitation anytime soon
Rishabh Pant, India's first-choice wicket-keeper batsman who put on a stunning as well as brave show in England, was ruled out after a nasty injury in Manchester, which fractured his right foot.
He played stupendously in the series and will be eager to play the home series against the West Indies after having missed the Asia Cup. He will likely commence his rehabilitation at the BCCI CoE anytime soon.
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was ruled out with injury after the Lord's test, has also been recovering at the CoE ever since he flew back midway through the Anderson-Tendulkar series. The all-rounder was also not considered for the Asia Cup squad and is likely to take some more time for recovery.
