Shubman Gill the lone Indian as ICC Announce Player of the Month Nominees for February 2025

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has on Friday (March 7) announced the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month award for February 2025 for both men’s and women’s categories, and India’s Shubman Gill has yet again made the cut for his remarkable run in ODIs.
Shubman Gill is the sole Indian that has been selected by the ICC for the prestigious award. Well, three players from Australia, one from both India and New Zealand, and one from Thailand have been nominated across the categories for the ICC Player of the Month award for February 2025.

Star New Zealander Glenn Phillips, Australian batting icon Steve Smith, and the young Indian batting sensation Gill are in contention to win the ICC Player of the Month award in the men’s category for their remarkable performance last month, including the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
On the other hand, Thailand’s 21-year-old left-arm spinner Thipatcha Putthawong is competing with Australian stars Alana King and Annabel Sutherland for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for February 2025 after her impressive performance in the Nepal Women's Tri-Nation Series.
Shubman Gill on verge of historic third ICC Player of the Month Award
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is on the cusp of winning the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for the third time, having claimed the honors twice for January 2023 and for September 2023. If Gill wins the award, he will become the first Indian player to be crowned ICC Player of the Month thrice.

The right-handed batter had a sensational run in February 2025, amassing 406 runs in just five ODIs at an incredible average of 101.50. Gill dominated England in the three-match ODI series at home with scores of 87, 60, and 112, which earned him the Player of the Series award.
The Indian batter continued his sublime form in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Gill kicked off the tournament with an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh and followed it up with a crucial 46 against Pakistan to play a key role in India making it to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final.
Steve Smith and Glenn Phillips in race for ICC Player of the Month award
Well, the second nominee is Steve Smith, who announced his retirement from ODI cricket after Australia faced defeat against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal. Smith delivered a stunning performance in the Test series against Sri Lanka, smashing 141 and 131 in two matches at a striking rate of 136.00 last month. He had won the Player of the Series award for his performance.
However, the seasoned Australian batter’s ODI form was modest, scoring 12 and 29 in Sri Lanka and then he could manage only five runs against England before an unbeaten 19 against Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy 2025. He led the Australia in Pat Cummins’ absence in the tournament.
The third and last name is Glenn Phillips, who was in top form for New Zealand last month. He scored 236 runs in five ODIs at a strike rate of 124.21. Phillips played a key role in the Black Caps’ Tri-Nation ODI series win in Pakistan, where he scored a century.
He continued his form in the CT 2025, where he made a solid 61 against Pakistan in Karachi and an unbeaten 21 against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.
Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong ioins Alana King and Annabel Sutherland in the award race
Speaking about the women’s category, Alana King was nominated for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for playing a key role in Australia's Ashes win over England Women. The leg-spinner scalped nine wickets in the one-off Test and was adjudged Player of the Series.
The second nominee is Annabel Sutherland, who shined with a stunning 163-run knock during the Ashes last month. At the end, Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong, who dominated the Nepal Tri-Nation Series with 14 wickets at an economy of 3.47, is the final contender for the honour.
