The stage is all set for a high-octane clash between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) tonight at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Ahead of Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2026 season, Inda batter Hanuma Vihari points out some crucial aspects of the game.
In most of the cases, the results of the matches are defined by some 1v1 rivalries. Vihari believes that tonight’s RCB vs GT match will also be influenced by at least one 1v1 battle, that is Virat Kohli vs Shubman Gill.
Hanuma Vihari's massive prediction of Shubman Gill vs Virat Kohli rivalry
There is no denying that Virat Kohli is still one of the driving forces for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The same can be said for the Gujarat Titans and Shubman Gill. Both of the openers' forms will be crucial to deciding the winner. The winner of the match will move straight into the final.
Observing the surge in Shubman Gill’s form in the ongoing season, Hanuma Vihari feels that Shubman Gill has all the tools in his arsenal to overcome the RCB batting maestro. According to Vihari, the contest between Gill and Kohli can decide the fortune of the qualifier.
“Shubman Gill is someone who is in great form. He has matched Kohli's innings by innings. He will try to show that I am the boss here, and he is that kind of player. Prince versus King is the battle to watch out for. The team that bats better in the power play will have an advantage in winning this game," Hanuma Vihari said on his YouTube channel.
Virat can be the tempo adjuster tonight
Hanuma Vihari’s point makes sense as the 26-year-old GT skipper and opener is in good form. Shubman Gill has so far scored 616 runs from 13 games so far at an average of 47.38 and a strike rate of 161.67, including six half-centuries. Three half-centuries he claimed in the last five matches.
Virat Kohli is amongst the batters who have made his name by performing under multiple pressure situations. There will be pressure in Dharamshala tonight as he will have to pace ace pacers like Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada.
“I think Virat Kohli will be the key. In big matches, big players step up. If someone has to face Siraj and Rabada, Kohli has the quality. Undoubtedly, he will be the key player for RCB. The bigger the match, the more he likes the occasion when the opportunity is there," Hanuma Vihari added.
The onus will be on Virat's shoulders
Vihari believes that Virat will be the main man for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who is going to stick to the surface and will deliver another sensible knock, showing respect to the conditions.
"Virat Kohli will play the conditions. He is one guy in that RCB team who will respect the conditions and bat. Last year's final is the prime example. His knock there in Ahmedabad was enough because in a pressure situation, runs on the board are runs on the board,” Hanuma further added.
