The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly has once again turned heads with an interesting way of celebrating Richa Ghosh’s stellar efforts in India’s historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph at home last week.

While the Bengal Government has not announced any reward for Richa Gosh, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is all set to stage a special ceremony at the headquarters in Kolkata, where several big names from Indian cricket are expected to attend.

The CAB has decided to reward Richa Ghosh in a unique way by presenting her with a gold bat and ball, along with a prize worth ₹34 lakh for her incredible efforts in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. It is being said that Jhulan Goswami is likely to hand over the golden bat to Richa herself.

Interestingly, the gold bat will have the signatures of both Sourav Ganguly and Jhulan Goswami—two icons of Bengal cricket who have inspired generations. The prize money number isn’t random, as it represents her score in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final, that played a key role in India’s memorable victory over South Africa in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Richa Ghosh played a big role in India’s success at the 2025 Women’s World Cup. The young wicketkeeper-batter was one of the most reliable players for the team, scoring 235 runs in eight matches at an average of nearly 40 and a strike rate of over 133.

In the semifinal against Australia, she scored a quick 26 off just 16 balls and then played a fighting knock of 34 off 24 deliveries in the final against South Africa, showing her ability to perform under pressure. In her overall ODI career so far, Richa has played 51 matches and scored 1,145 runs from 49 innings with the help of seven half-centuries.

Richa Ghosh reacts to the grand welcome she received in Siliguri

On the other hand, Richa received a grand welcome in her hometown, Siliguri, after helping India win the 2025 Women’s World Cup. The 22-year-old star was greeted with cheers, fireworks, and drumbeats as fans filled the streets to celebrate her return.

The celebrations began at Bagdogra airport, where Siliguri mayor Gautam Deb, Richa’s father Manabendra Ghosh, and members of local sports groups and NGOs warmly welcomed her.

Richa was quoted as saying by The Telegraph India, “I am overwhelmed by the reception I have received. Seeing young players come here to cheer is a great motivation. When I started playing, I didn’t know that girls played cricket separately. I used to play with boys. After playing at the district level, I realized the opportunities for women cricketers. Now, with the Women’s Premier League and our World Cup victory, I hope even more girls will be encouraged to take up the sport and excel.”
