Legendary Captain Sourav Ganguly was not allowed a second term as the BCCI President. This decision raised quite a few eyebrows as Ganguly had done quite a decent job in his tenure. He had made India a force to reckon with in Test format as winning Test Series in Australia is never easy by any means.
Under his tenure, India didn’t win a single ICC tournament which could be one of the reasons behind his axe. The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 performance was embarrassing as the team didn’t show any fight or intent.
Mamta Banerjee on Sourav Ganguly
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee was quite vocal regarding Sourav Ganguly. “Sourav Ganguly is not only the pride of Bengal but also of the entire nation. He has led the cricket team and BCCI with the utmost dedication and responsibility. He has proved himself to be an able administrator and I am shocked by his removal from the BCCI president’s post.” she said.
“But for reasons not yet known, Jay Shah is still continuing as the BCCI secretary while Sourav Ganguly has been removed from the position. Our grievance is why Sourav Ganguly was let go from BCCI. We want to know on whose order it was done. We believe that there was injustice done to Ganguly.” she added.
Roger Binny Invaluable Asset
The 1983 World Cup Winner and former member of Selection panel of India are all set to be the next president of BCCI. The flamboyant all-rounder was severely criticized for his selection. It would be interesting to see what new changes he brings to India Cricket.
Roger Binny is someone who is fearless and there are chances that Test Cricket may get more prioritized. He would be well aware of the fact that there are a lot of World Cups aligned in the next 3 years. India hasn’t won ICC Tournament since the 2013 Champions Trophy triumph.
