BCCI President Sourav Ganguly lavished praises on the Indian team for putting up a stellar show to beat England in the four-match Test series on Saturday. Virat Kohli’s men demolished the Englishmen by an innings and 25 runs on day three of the fourth Test to reach the ICC World Test Championship’s final and climb to the top of the Test rankings. Sourav Ganguly said that India performed remarkably despite staying within the bubble for so long.

The Indian team suffered a chastening defeat in the first Test by 227 runs as Joe Root started the series outstandingly by scoring a double century. India’s spin-attack, which was not as effective in the opening Test, bounced back to tangle the tourists in a spinning web in the next three Tests. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who replaced Ravindra Jadeja, was instrumental in the home side’s victory as he claimed 27 wickets in his first three Tests.

Ravichandran Ashwin was yet another star performer for the Indian outfit as he earned the man of the series award. The 34-year old claimed 32 wickets in four Tests at 14.71 alongside scoring a vital century in the second Test. Alongside Axar and Ashwin, Rishabh Pant’s game-changing knocks also made a massive difference, while Rohit Sharma’s resilient innings at the top were also vital. The ICC World Test Championship final will witness India and New Zealand lock horns at the Lord’s on the 18th of June.

Sourav Ganguly took to his official Twitter handle and congratulated the Indian team for winning the series and booking their spot in the ICC World Test Championship’s final. The former Indian captain felt that it was a herculean effort to stay in the bubble for so long and playing top-quality cricket in the last five months.
