AB de Villiers in talks of his return with coach Mark Boucher

After his Man of the Match performance on Sunday, AB de Villiers expressed his desire to come out of retirement. He revealed that he has been in talks with South African head coach, Mark Boucher about returning to the national set-up keeping in mind the consecutive T20 World Cups.

However, the Pretoria-born understands that it would be difficult for him to replace anyone in the batting order who is performing well, and will talk with Boucher further at the end of the IPL.

South Africa recently lost ODI and T20I series to Pakistan at home. After which the coach said he had spoken to AB de Villiers before the IPL and that the “conversation is still very much open”.

“We are lined up to have a chat sometime during the IPL. But yes, we’ve been talking about it already. Last year, he asked me if I would be interested. And I said, ‘absolutely’. And come the end of the IPL, we will have a look at where we are at with regards to my form and my fitness,” AB de Villiers said.

“Also, the situation with his team – he’s got to look at his guys who have been performing well over the last while. If there’s no space for me, so be it. If I can slot in there, it will be fantastic if all those things fall in place. Waiting for [the chat with] Bouchy towards the end of the IPL, and we will then plan accordingly,” he added.
