South Africa takes on England in match 20 of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Mumbai on Saturday, October 21. The match starts at 2 pm and is the first match in Mumbai.
South Africa lost to the Netherlands in their previous match when they failed to chase 246 to win. They were bowled out for 215 in a rain-curtailed match. The lack of enough contribution from the middle-order was the reason behind their loss in the previous game.
They have a mighty fine batting lineup and they would like to make up for their loss with a big win against England. The defending world champions have lost two out of their three matches and the Proteas would like to take advantage of this. They bat deep and need to exercise their batting prowess in the small ground at the Wankhede stadium.
South Africa last toured England in 2022 for three ODIs, three T20IS, and three Tests between August and September. The ODI series ended in a 1-1 draw after the third ODI was washed out due to rain. South Africa then won the three-match T20I series 2-1 and England came back to win the Test series 2-1 in what was a memorable series. South Africa won an ODI series 2-1 earlier this year at home.

In World Cups, South Africa have won three games against England and it is a nice time to notch up their fourth. Tabraiz Shamsi can be brought back into the playing XI against England who have struggled against spin as was evident in the last match against Afghanistan.
South Africa Playing 11 vs England – ICC World Cup 2023, Match 20
Quinton de Kock (WK)
De Kock will open the batting for South Africa. He started his campaign with back-to-back hundreds and then scored just 20 against Afghanistan. He is back at a venue where he has played a lot of IPL cricket and knows the ground well.
Temba Bavuma (C)
Bavuma will open the batting and will also lead the side. He is a dynamic batter and will look to score a big one against England. He recently scored an ODI ton against Australia heading into the World Cup.
Rassie van der Dussen
Van der Dussen scored a century against Sri Lanka but scored just four against Afghanistan as he failed to counter the spin. He will fancy batting in Mumbai. The batter went past 50 ODIs for South Africa in this World Cup.
Aiden Markram
iden Markram will bat at four. He was one of the three centurions against Sri Lanka but has gone down since then. He scored 1 off 3 balls against the Netherlands. He is closing in on 2000 ODI runs.
Heinrich Klaasen
Heinrich Klaasen will at at five. he is amongst the best batters against spin. He also looks currently the best batter in form in the South African batting lineup. He will fancy his chance against England in Mumbai. Klaasen scored 28 against the Netherlands.
David Miller
Miller will bat at six. He was the lone fighter for South Africa against the Netherlands scoring 43 off 52 balls. He has five ODI tons to his name and needs to play another good knock for his side.
Marco Jansen
Jansen will bat at seven and is the all-rounder in the XI. He scores handy runs down the order swings the ball up front and picks up wickets. He will need to pick early wickets against England.
Kagiso Rabada
Rabada will lead the pace attack for South Africa. So far in this tournament, he has picked up seven wickets from three games including two against Netherlands. He has picked up 151 wickets from 95 ODIs so far.
Lungi Ngidi
Ngidi will partner with Rabada from the other end. He has picked up 82 wickets from 51 games and has been an able backup for Rabada. These two pacers will need to bowl well against England.
Keshav Maharaj
Maharaj will be one of the two spinners against England. The left-arm spinner should exploit England’s weakness against left-arm spin. He picked up 1 for 38 against the Netherlands and five wickets in three games so far in this World Cup.
Tabraiz Shamsi
Shamsi should replace Gerald Coetzee in the playing XI as he was expensive in the last match. Shamsi and Maharaj bowl well as a pair and should bowl in tandem. He is three short of 50 ODIs for South Africa.
