Sri Lanka cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa sends legal notice to actress over false accusations

Sri Lanka National Cricket Team batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa has taken legal action against young actress Harshi Rasanga over claims she made on social media. Bhanuka Rajapaksa claimed that the Sri Lankan actress' each and every word was false and misleading.
The controversy is over a gold chain valued at over Rs 900,000. Rajapaksa claimed that the actress had borrowed the chain but later pawned it without informing him. Things turned ugly when Harshi posted a statement on social media that contradicted what had been discussed in court.

Now, as reported by Newswire, Bhanuka Rajapaksa sent a formal Letter of Demand (LOD) to Harshi Rasanga through his legal team over her false claims.

The Sri Lanka cricketer’s legal team revealed that the actress told the court the gold chain was pawned, but later she posted a different story on social media, which led Rajapaksa to take legal action against her.
Harshi Rasanga takes shocking U-Turn after bail
Earlier, Harshi Rasanga was arrested by Thalangama Police in this case and was presented before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court. She was granted bail on two sureties of Rs 500,000 each, but the legal drama did not end there. It was the beginning of a fresh controversy.
During the court proceedings, Harshi’s defense admitted that the gold chain had been pawned and promised that arrangements could be made to redeem it and return it to Rajapaksa. But the actress changed the entire case once she was released on bail.
Harshi went to the media and claimed that the chain had been given to her as a gift during a personal relationship by the Sri Lanka batter. It was the shocking U-turn from her statement.
Next hearing set for April 22
The court has now directed Thalangama Police to take custody of the gold chain and represent it at the next hearing, which is scheduled for April 22, 2026. Rajapaksa is yet to respond to the actress’ claims of their personal relationship.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa's Sri Lanka career in numbers
Speaking about Rajapaksa’s career, the left-handed batter has not played an ODI for Sri Lanka since September 2021, though he remains part of the T20I squad. He last played for Sri Lanka in November 2025 against Zimbabwe and is struggling to make it into the national T20I side.
He has so far played only 5 ODIs and 45 T20Is, amassing 89 and 744 runs, respectively, for the Islanders. However, the Sri Lankan batter has been actively taking part in the franchise cricket tournaments like the UAE's ILT20, Pakistan’s Pakistan Super League, and Bangladesh Premier League.
Rajapaksa also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as South Africa’s domestic T20 league—SA20—and the West Indies’ Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He has 4187 runs at an average of 22.75 and a strike rate of around 137 in 225 T20 matches to his name.
The batter has hit one century and 17 fifties in his T20 career so far. He was most recently seen in action for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club in the Premier Trophy 2026, where he managed only around 70 runs across the four innings.
