Former India National Cricket Team batter Sunil Gavaskar predicted the result for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025. He backed the Rohit Sharma-led side to win the series by the margin of 3-1 because he believed that the hosts would be on the back foot because of their batting problems.

The countdown for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 has begun and no doubt it will be one of the most exciting Test series. India and Australia in the last few years have engaged in enthralling battles between bat and ball with the Rohit Sharma-led side having the upper hand both at home as well as away.

The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will see 5 Tests being played between India and Australia. Earlier, it used to be just four games but with one more game added this time, it promises to be an exciting battle between the two top teams in Test cricket currently.

India on their last two tours to Australia have done some incredible things. They won the series both times and also beat the opposition at home. However, when it mattered, it was the Pat Cummins-led side who stood tall and defeated India in the final of the World Test Championship 2023.

Sunil Gavaskar talked about the upcoming Test series between the two top teams. He pointed out the problems Australia might have in the batting. He also noted that India are slow starter in SENA countries. Writing in his column for Mid-day, he explained:

"With their opening batting problems exacerbated after the retirement of David Warner and the middle-order also a bit dodgy, the Aussies are ripe for the taking once again,”

"India being usual slow starters in an overseas series in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries the first Test will be crucial. That they aren’t playing proper first-class games before that as well as in the week-long gaps between some Test matches could work against them," said Sunil Gavaskar.

My prediction is a 3-1 win for India - Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar further highlighted that with fewer games before the tour, young Indian batters might find it difficult. But the batting great does not doubt that it will be an exciting series and stated that it will reflect why Test cricket is the ultimate format. He added:

"That said, it is how schedules are nowadays for most touring sides. It is tough on inexperienced newcomers as Yashasvi Jaiswal found in South Africa last year. He came back brilliantly with over 700 runs against England at home,

“It’s going to be an exciting series for sure with the talent that is there on both sides and it will also show why Test match cricket is the ultimate format of our beloved game. Oh, and my prediction is a 3-1 win for India,” Sunil Gavaskar concluded.

The Border-Gavaskar will begin on 22nd November at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The second game between India and Australia will be a day and night fixture that will be played in Adelaide from 6th December.

The third Test is scheduled to take place at the Gabba in Brisbane from 14th December followed by the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from 26th December. The last match will be played in Sydney from 3rd January.
