Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has returned a plot in Mumbai that was allotted to him by the government 33 years ago. It was given in order to set up a cricket academy but the plan never went through.
Finally, an official from the Maharashtra housing agency Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), has confirmed that Gavaskar has returned the plot on Wednesday. The issue came to light after State Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad raised his concerns about it.
Awhad was unhappy with Gavaskar as the 72-year-old didn’t utilize the plot in suburban Bandra despite having more than enough time to make use of the aforementioned land.
Sunil Gavaskar informed CM about the inability to utilize plot
Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar had approached Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, with an organized plan for setting up the academy, considering Mumbai has plenty of budding youngsters ready to take on the world.
However, it went downhill too quickly following which, Gavaskar wrote a letter to Thackeray. He informed Thackeray that the plot couldn’t be utilized to build the promised cricket academy.
MHADA had a discussion that lasted over eight months where meetings were held with the partners of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra, the official further revealed.
