Team India’s triumph for the ages in Australia has been lauded and celebrated by cricket lovers from around the world. The manner in which the Indian team under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane triumphs despite all the odds stacked against them made the cricketing world stand up and take notice.

Former Indian opener-turned commentator Sunil Gavaskar has revealed that former West Indies captain and one of the greatest-ever batsman to have ever played the game, Brian Lara, was so so overjoyed with Team India’s series win that he came and hugged the ‘Little Master’ during Channel 07- the host broadcaster’s farewell party.

Brian Lara was also a part of the Channel 7 commentary team alongside Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar for the blockbuster India-Australia series.

“We won. we won..” Brian Lara had told Sunil Gavaskar during Channel 7’s farewell party.

“At the Channel 7 farewell party on the last day, I walked around the room with my glass raised, and every Australian there cheered. Then Brian Charles Lara (Gavaskar’s fellow commentator during the series) came, hugged me, and screamed, ‘We won, we won’. What a series! Will Cherish these memories for whatever is left of my life. I am still over the moon and still in orbit!,” Sunil Gavaskar added as quoted by Times of India.

After having endured a record low in the second innings of the Adelaide Test where they were shot out for 36, Team India, despite the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli and a whole host of first-choice cricketers including Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav (for the last two Tests), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Hanuma (for the final Test), scripted a comeback for the ages by winning two Test matches in Melbourne (by 8 wickets) and Brisbane (by 3 wickets) besides enforcing a hard-earned draw in Sydney to win the four-match rubber by 2-1.
