Suryakumar Yadav's India suffered a humiliating defeat of 76 by the previous edition finalist South Africa, on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. South Africa, batting first, scored 187/7, and India had a batting collapse and could only get to 111 before being bowled out. This ended numerous records set by India; their 12-match win streak in the T20 World Cups has ended.

The next record that was buried was a 17-match win streak in the ICC competitions since the T20 World Cup 2024. However, after the loss, a unique coincidental record came in for Suryakumar Yadav during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav has an unwanted record at Narendra Modi Stadium

India qualified for the final after winning 10 matches in a row, but lost the final with SKY scoring 18 runs on a black soil pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. India have so far played 28 games in the last four ICC tournaments since the 2023 ODI World Cup, and has lost only two games. Despite having an early advantage in the game, they ended on the losing side, on the same venue, which is the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Suryakumar Yadav has been brilliant for India, as he played a captain’s knock in the very first game. However, this time he failed to hold the pressure and got out early. Suryakumar Yadav and his men are now on a must-win scenario in their upcoming two Super 8 games.

India need to win the remaining games to qualify

India is yet to win a knockout game at this venue. After this big loss, their net run rate has also gone down, and the Men in Blue will play Zimbabwe and West Indies in their next upcoming fixtures and will hope to win the matches and try to win them by big margins in order to compensate for the fall in the run rate.

They would also hope that South Africa wins their remaining two matches with the same opponents, tops the group, and qualifies with six points from this group, with India next qualifying from this group if they win the remaining two games. Any loss from Suryakumar Yadav’s side will potentially knock them out of the tournament.

David Miller rescued South Africa

Coming to the match, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first; they were 20/3 at one stage, however, a David Miller masterclass helped the side to get out of the collapse.

Miller and Dewald Brevis built a partnership of 97 runs off 57 balls. The former scored 63 off 35 balls, and Brevis, on the other hand, scored 45 off 29 balls. A firepower of 45 off 24 from Tristan Stubbs helped the Proteas to post a total of 187/7.

India, while chasing lost Ishan Kishan early, as the Southpaw went back without scoring. India lost half their side inside the 10 overs, with the score being 51/5. A fighting knock of 42 off 37 balls helped India go past 100 run mark as they were bowled out for 111.
