Suryakumar Yadav-led India will be facing Pakistan in the 2026 T20 World Cup Group A fixture on Sunday at the R Premedasa Stadium, Colombo. Both teams have geared up for the blockbuster clash on the weekend. It will be the battle of spinners in Sri Lanka, with the pitch predicted to be slow and the boundaries being big.
Ahead of the match, team India captain Suryakumar Yadav was caught bowling in the nets during Saturday’s net session. The skipper was bowling to Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh, so there is an outside chance that he might bowl in the game as well. However, it came to notice that he was bowling in a unique action, by pausing before releasing the ball, an action similar to Usman Tariq.
When Suryakumar Yadav was reported for suspect action
Surya, who was previously reported back in 2014, was bowling in the Champions League T20 game for the Kolkata Knight Riders against the Chennai Super Kings. During that time, he became the fifth bowler to be reported for a suspect action during the tournament. After then team-mate Sunil Narine, Prenelan Subrayen of Dolphins, and Adnan Rasool and Mohammed Hafeez of Lahore Lions.
Suryakumar Yadav does not bowl regularly and was charged by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Kumar Dharmasena, as well as third umpire S Ravi. After reviewing the video of the match. The umpires said that he bowled with a bent action in his elbow that exceeded the limit of the rules.
Suryakumar Yadav turns India's Usman Tariq in the nets before India vs Pakistan clash
Suryakumar Yadav, who was yet again seen bowling with unorthodox action, last night, as it looked like India is preparing particularly for Usman Tariq, who bowls in a similar action and pauses before delivering the ball. His action has been called into question and given a solution on how the batters will tackle him.
During the press conference on Saturday, SKY came up with a statement about how the Indian team plans to tackle unconventional bowlers like Usman Tariq. He took a reference from the examination that some questions come out of the syllabus, and how people handle them without leaving or ignoring them.

Suryakumar Yadav said, "See, sometimes there is a question in the exam as well, which is out of the syllabus. So, we can't leave that question. To tackle that, you have to try something. You have to adopt your own way. And we try the same way,"
"Yes, he (Usman Tariq) is a different character when he comes to bowl. But at the same time, we can't just surrender. We practice with similar type of bowlers and with similar actions. And we will try to execute what we are practising in the net sessions during the match," SKY further added.
Usman Tariq, a chucker? Spinner's controversial past revealed

Usman Tariq has been sensational for Pakistan since his debut. He has picked up 11 wickets in four T20Is at an average of 7.90, and has the record for picking wickets in 23 consecutive matches whenever he has been a part of the team, the most by any Pakistani bowler. Usman Tariq has an extra elbow on his bowling arm, which makes him look like chucking.
Tariq has cleared two biomechanical tests in Lahore and has passed both times. Despite the controversies, he has the right to bowl. However, there’s a chance that he might be called into question if the batter moves away from the crease, citing that he is pausing for longer times, as it is well within the rules. It will be interesting to see if any batters do so during the high-intensity game.
