Indian middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav recently won his first series as India’s T20I captain against Australia. The Men in Blue won the series 4-1 winning the final T20I in Bengaluru on Sunday, December 3.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 80 with the bat in the first T20I, giving glimpses of his return to form. He was absolutely flawless with the bat in the first T20I. Throughout the series, he scored 19 in the second T20I and a crucial 39 in the third T20I.

Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar talked to Star Sports about how SKY finds himself in the comfort zone while playing T20I cricket.

“Somewhere Suryakumar finds himself in the comfort zone as a player while playing T20 cricket and as a captain and we recently saw how he delivered as a batter, “ said Manjrekar.

The former Indian batter further said that SKY should be comfortable with leading a young Indian team in the upcoming series against South Africa. India will be playing all three formats against The Proteas with Suryakumar leading a young Indian team in the three-match T20I series. KL Rahul will lead the ODI side while Rohit Sharma will return to lead the Test side.

Senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma asked for rest during the white-ball leg of the tour. This allowed the selection committee to add new young players and allow them to showcase their talent.

“Suryakumar Yadav should not have any issues leading the young Indian side and given the kind of pitches in South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav the batter will make the biggesst contribution for Suryakumar Yadav the captain”.

The three-match T20I series starts on December 10 with the first T20I in Durban. Gqeberha will host the second T20I on December 12 followed by the third T20I in Johannesburg on December 14. This will be followed by a three-match ODI series on December 17, 19 and 21. Centurion hosts the first Test from December 26-30 while Cape Town the second from January 3-7, 2024.
