Suryakumar Yadav is likely to face the Uganda cricket team ahead of the T20 Mumbai League, which begins here on June 1. India’s T20I captain is likely to take the field against the Uganda National Cricket Team ahead of the local franchise league.
The Uganda team is currently on a four-day tour of Mumbai for four T20I games. Uganda will face four different Mumbai T20 League teams in the Twenty20 format.
Suryakumar Yadav is likely to play against Uganda
After wrapping up the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) with the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the bottom half of the points table, Suryakumar Yadav will feature in Mumbai’s T20 franchise league. He is all set to feature for the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East.
But before that, the star batter is likely to face Uganda. The Triumph Knights Mumbai North East vs Uganda T20 match is scheduled for May 30 at the MCA Ground in Bandra Kurla Complex.
An agreement between MCA and Uganda
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCS) has successfully made an agreement of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with Cricket Uganda. During the announcement of the agreement on Tuesday, MCA secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar told the media about Suryakumar Yadav’s chances to feature against Uganda.
“He (Suryakumar Yadav) is a part of the team, so he is likely to play,” Unmesh Khanvilkar informed, as quoted by Sportstar.
“Suryakumar Yadav is the Indian captain, and whenever he plays against any team, it is a morale-booster for any team, and it is going to be a good cricket experience,” he added.
Jay Shah has a massive role in the agreement
MCA president Ajinkya Naik informed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah has played a massive role in the agreement between MCA and Uganda. As a state cricket board, it is a great privilege for MCA to host a national cricket team. Cricketers of Mumbai are also expected to get exposure because of the deal.
“Under the leadership of Mr Jay Shah, he had requested us to host the Uganda cricket team, and we thought it was a great privilege to host a national team here in Mumbai and for our Mumbai players to get an exposure against a national team,” Ajinkya Naik said.
Likewise, because of the Memorandum of Understanding, MCA can also travel to Uganda during their season or even in the off-season.
“The Uganda team can come and play matches here, and whenever MCA needs to go and play in that country during our season or even when we have our off-season.” Naik continued.
“The players who are playing for the senior team or even the Indian team, they have the exposure. But those who are in the second or third line — the bench strength of MCA — they need exposure. That’s the reason why we are (also) travelling to the UK this year, both men’s and women’s teams, and this is an additional opportunity,” he also told the reporters.
