Kumar Sangakkara, former Sri Lankan skipper and the Director of Cricket for Rajasthan Royals (RR), has leveled India as a strong contender for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the USA and West Indies from June 1.

The Sri Lankan legend highlighted Team India’s depth in formidable batting and versatile all-rounders, along with their high-quality spin options, which will offer them tactical adaptability depending on the circumstances of the mega event.

Expressing confidence in the squad's ability to adapt to various conditions, Sangakkara hailed the strategic planning of Indian head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma.

The legendary batter also highlighted the flexibility in India’s T20 World Cup squad, which will allow them to play with different combinations depending on the desired batting or bowling strength.

It's an extremely strong squad: Kumar Sangakkara on India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad

Kumar Sangakkara said at the press conference: “It's an extremely strong squad. They've got their batting covered, they've got their all-rounders in. They've got very high-quality spin and they've got very good combinations that they can play. Knowing the conditions there, I'm sure Rahul and Rohit have a good idea of what the squad should be to play the cricket they want in the World Cup.

And they'll be having two or three different combinations, depending on whether they want a deeper batting line-up or more strength in their bowling. But it's a really well-balanced squad, a very strong squad and India's always been very strong in international tournaments.”

India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad has four players from Rajasthan Royals (RR): Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Yuzvendra Chahal in the primary squad, with Avesh Khan named as a reserve player for the mega event. Sangakkara said that they are really proud of their players who were selected for India’s squad and lauded their hard work and resilience.
