Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced heavy backlash on social media following their controversial decisions during the Super Over in a defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC). Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth pointed out that Rajasthan left out a player who has performed well against Mitchell Starc during the Super Over.

Many expected Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana to open during the Super Over following their impressive half-centuries in the match. However, the team surprised everyone by sending out Riyan Parag alongside Shimron Hetmyer. Rana wasn’t even included in the list of three available batters for the Super Over.

Mitchell Starc's Precision Yorkers Punish Rajasthan Royals in Super Over

Rajasthan Royals' Super Over strategy backfired. Mitchell Starc started with a pinpoint yorker that cramped Shimron Hetmyer, resulting in a dot ball. Hetmyer hit a boundary on the next delivery after a missed yorker. The left-arm fast bowler regained control with a low full toss, which was kept to a single.

Riyan Parag then managed to smash a low full toss over third man for a boundary, which also turned out to be a no-ball. With momentum shifting in RR’s favor and three balls left, they looked set to score beyond 15. However, Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal were run out, and Rajasthan ended with just 11 runs.

Delhi had little trouble chasing it down, as KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs smashed two sixes in the first three balls of Sandeep Sharma’s over. The Axar Patel-led team secured their fifth victory of the season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, April 16.

You Sent Two Batters Who Were Struggling - Kris Srikkanth

After the match, Kris Srikkanth didn’t hold back in criticizing the Rajasthan Royals’ Super Over picks. He questioned the team’s decision to leave out Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had smashed Mitchell Starc during the match. He called it a tactical blunder that made things easy for the Delhi Capitals.

"Such terrible decisions by RR , first off super over combination was wrong, you have A player who was dangerous against starc and you sent two batters who were struggling, it was literally a walk over for Dc ! Anyhow one thing is certain CATCHES WIN MATCHES! #DCvsRR," Srikkanth wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Jaiswal smashed two fours and a six off Starc during the third over of the run chase. The left-handed batter was dismissed after scoring 51 runs off 37 balls, including three boundaries and four sixes.
