"That will be shocking" - Sanjay Manjrekar's bold claim on T20 World Cup 2024 final result

Former Indian cricketers Deep Dasgupta and Sanjay Manjrekar shared their thoughts on the favorites for the T20 World Cup 2024 final match between India and South Africa. Deep Dasgupta and Sanjay Manjrekar ignored South Africa while naming India to win the title in the ongoing ICC tournament.

The Rohit Sharma-led team is scheduled to take on the Aiden Markram-led team in the summit clash of the tournament. The final match will be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29, at 10:30 am Local Time (8:00 pm IST). The World Cup final has a reserve day for rain interruptions.

A Convincing Team So Far - Deep Dasgupta

Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Deep Dasgupta said that India are the favorites against South Africa in the World Cup final. Dasgupta stated that Caribbean conditions suit India's batting and bowling. He added that India has been the more convincing team, despite both teams being unbeaten in the World Cup.

"I think so, yes (India favorites). I mean, the way India has been playing and the kind of conditions that we have here in the Caribbean, it suits India to the tee, whether it's batting or bowling. Bowling resources that India has, batting resources obviously. South Africa is unbeaten as well. But if you think about a convincing team so far, it's India," Deep Dasgupta said.

The Rohit Sharma-led team defeated England by 68 runs in the second semi-final match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. The Indian cricket team avenged their semi-final loss in the last edition of the T20 World Cup. Team India knocked out the England cricket team from the ongoing tournament.

South Africa secured their first-ever T20 World Cup final appearance by defeating Afghanistan in the first semi-final in Trinidad. The Proteas bowled out the Afghanistan team for just 56 runs in 11.5 overs in the knockout match. South Africa then chased down the target in only 8.5 overs with nine wickets to spare.

During the same discussion, Sanjay Manjrekar said that if South Africa wins against India in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, it would be a surprising outcome for him.

"If South Africa wins, for me, that will be a shocking result," Sanjay Manjrekar said.

The Men in Blue, who won the inaugural 2007 edition, have reached the final after over a decade. They won their first three Group A matches before their last game against Canada was abandoned due to a wet outfield. They defeated Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia in Group 1 during the Super 8s.

The Proteas dominated Group D by winning all four of their matches against Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Nepal. In the Super 8 stage, they defeated the United States, England, and the West Indies. The Aiden Markram-led team will be hoping to win their first-ever World Cup trophy.
