India and SunRisers Hyderabad paceman Siddharth Kaul might be out of the national team’s contention at present; however, he holds a chance to make a comeback in July. With India set to field a second-string team in Sri Lanka, Siddharth Kaul could be one of the fast bowlers the selectors opt for. Meanwhile, the right-arm seamer recollected the advice he received from Harbhajan in 2011-12.

Siddharth Kaul has not delivered as per expectations in the last two completed IPL editions as he averaged a mediocre 40.33 and 32 in 2019 and 2020, respectively. The 31-year old did not reach his full potential in international cricket either, as he has managed no wicket in the three ODIs he played and taken four in three T20Is at 21. Kaul would be keen to get back in the national team’s mix as he has already expressed his intention to play in the next 50-over World Cup.

Siddharth Kaul recalled wise words from Harbhajan Singh, who returned to the domestic circuit in 2011-12 to regain his form. The 31-year old conceded that all his close ones have told him to give his 110% on the ground since, which is when he becomes something else. With Harbhajan telling him the same, Kaul has been following that.

“My parents, coaches, and every big player who has been associated with me have told me, When you give your 110% on the ground, you are something else. Keep on doing that’. Harbhajan Singh told me this during 2011-12. He was making a comeback into the Indian team, so he had to come to play domestic cricket and captained Punjab. That’s the advice I have been following since then,” Kaul told Sportskeeda.

Siddharth Kaul strongly wishes to be in India’s squad for the Sri Lanka tour as he has been preparing in the domestic circuit for making a comeback. The Punjab-born cricketer asserted that he was the highest wicket-taker for Punjab in four-day cricket and reminded he is in the side due to his performances and not because of someone’s backing. Kaul vowed to keep knocking on the selectors’ doors until it breaks open.

“Definitely, I want to get into the Sri Lanka squad. Because I am preparing myself, and I am performing in domestic cricket. India A I haven’t played since 2019; they did not select me after that. But I have performed in the domestic circuit. Even in four-day cricket, I was the highest wicket-taker for Punjab. I wasn’t in the Indian team because of anyone’s backing. I have been there because of my performances, and I am proud of that. I will keep on banging the door with my performances till it doesn’t break,” he added.
