Australia’s support staff member Sridharan Sriram has said that it will be better for the Australian cricket team to deal with Tim Paine’s resignation as Test captain quickly. His comments come after Australia’s Test skipper Tim Paine resigned from captaincy due to involvement in the 2017 sexting scandal that came out in the media on Saturday (November 20).

Tim Paine, who took over the Test captaincy in March 2018 after the infamous ball-tampering scandal, was involved in a sexting scandal with a former co-worker back in 2017. The wicketkeeper-batsman shared some explicit messages and photos with the female colleague, who used to work for Tasmania Cricket.

After Tim Paine came to know that the matter will be made public after four years, he decided to resign from his role of Test skipper. However, he has made himself available as a player.

The Quicker Australia Deal With It, The Better: Sridharan Sriram On Tim Paine Resignation

While speaking to cricketnext.com, Australia’s coaching staff member Sridharan Sriram opened up about his opinion on the matter. Sriram, who is also a former Indian cricketer, said that he came to know about the matter through media and is yet to talk Paine over the incident.

“I came to know through the media. I have not been in touch with him. I might send him a text later. It is very disappointing for everyone. As a team, Australia have to deal with it.

“To come out of it, given the importance of the series that is coming up, the quicker they deal with it, the better. Given the space in which Australia is, they will come out of it quicker,” Sridharan Sriram said.

Tim Paine’s resignation has come as a big blow to Australian cricket, who are all set to face England in The Ashes 2021-22 series in December. The series commences on December 8 with the first Test. Now, the management has just a few weeks left to name a new Test captain for the team.

Pat Cummins is being seen as the most favourite option for Australia’s new Test skipper. Pat Cummins is the vice-captain for the team in all three formats and has shown a consistent bowling performance in recent years across formats.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith is also a worthy player for the role. However, Smith faced a two-year captaincy ban due to his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal in 2018, and the infamous incident can affect his nomination as Test skipper.
