There Was This Notion That Jasprit Bumrah Just Bowls Fast And Beats Batters But Does Not Dismiss Them – Parthiv Patel

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has said that there was a notion during Jasprit Bumrah’s early days in Ranji Trophy that he just bowls at a good pace and beats batters but he can’t pick wickets.

Parthiv Patel was the captain of team Gujarat when pacer Jasprit Bumrah made his debut in the marquee domestic competition Ranji Trophy.

Meanwhile, Parthiv has said that he feels proud to see Bumrah’s immense growth in cricket. He added that there were a lot of talks in Gujarat about Bumrah’s unorthodox action and how he can pick up the injuries very easily.

“It’s a very proud feeling,” said Parthiv on Cricbuzz about Bumrah’s development.  

“A lot of people in India were talking early on about his action and how easily he can pick up injuries but even before that, this was being talked about in Gujarat. There was also this notion that he just bowls fast and beats batters but does not dismiss them. But you couldn’t have known for sure until you got him to play in the Ranji Trophy,” he said.

In the beginning, he didn’t have any variations – Parthiv Patel on Jasprit Bumrah

Former wicket-keeper said that during his early days in cricket Bumrah didn’t have many variations and he only used to bowl inswingers and yorkers. Parthiv added that Bumrah learned a lot of things from legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga at Mumbai Indians (MI).

“In the beginning, he didn’t have any variations apart from the inswinger from wide of the crease and the yorker. Then he learnt how to use the crease better. He tried bowling outswingers and it was not easy for him considering his action. He worked on that with Malinga and improved that aspect of his game. He added the yorker with the new ball in his arsenal,” he said.
