'There's No Tension' : Shafali Verma Relaxed Ahead Of Her Stint In The Hundred

Indian women T20 batter Shafali Verma is relaxed ahead of the inaugural season of The Hundred later this year. Shafali Verma will replace captain Sophie Devine for the Birmingham Pheonix as she continues to rise through the ranks after her exploits in the Women’s T20 World Cup later this year. The 17-year old remains unfazed by the challenge and just wants to make her country and father proud.
Shafali Verma delivered incredible performances at the top during the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The right-handed batter was the fifth-highest run-getter in the tournament, scoring 163 runs in five matches at 32.60, striking at 158.25. Verma also performed decently in the home T20 series against South Africa, compiling scores of 23, 47, and 60 in three matches.
Shafali Verma conceded that there is no tension on her part as she wants to play to the best of her abilities and make her country and her father proud.
“There’s no tension. I just want to perform to the best of my abilities and make my country and father proud,” Verma told Indian Express.
Shafali Verma looking to gain as much practice ahead of a busy season:
The teen prodigy, who has inked a deal with Sydney Sixers ahead of the Women’s BBL 2021, said she would have liked to practice at her coach Ashwani sir’s academy. Unfortunately, Verma revealed that the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 has hampered her preparation.
“With so much cricket scheduled over the next three months, I would have liked to practice at my coach Ashwani sir’s academy. I miss the nets session. But given the current situation (pandemic and lockdown), this is the best that I could have done,” he added.
