New Zealand veteran seamer Tim Southee has opened up on the cheeky incident between Virat Kohli and Kyle Jamieson. Royal Challengers Bangalore were blessed with the duo of Virat Kohli and Kyle Jamieson as the skipper used him effectively to combat the opposition. But Tim Southee hailed Jamieson for denying to bowl to Kohli, who wanted to get a look in ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final.

The ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand in Southampton on the 18th of June is one of the most anticipated events in recent times. Ahead of the decider, Virat Kohli asked Kyle Jamieson to bowl to him in the nets during their stint together in the IPL. However, the right-arm seamer denied to do it, refusing to have Indian captain the idea.

Tim Southee revealed it was smart of Virat Kohli if he would fall in the trap; however, he claimed that Kyle Jamieson was wise enough not to let him have an idea of what he would face in the final.

“I’m pretty sure that story is true. But that would be the answer to most batsmen – why would you give them a look? It was smart from Virat to see if he’d fall into the trap but for Kyle, it was a no-brainer to not give the guy a glimpse of what he’ll be facing [in the final],” Southee told The Guardian.

Tim Southee further said that a bowler like Jamieson, who fires from 6 feet 8 inches, would only strengthen their bowling attack. Southee conceded that the 26-year old is always keen on improving and questions the batsmen all the time by bowling full. Thus, he remains a massive asset for New Zealand.

“But yes, a guy who bowls from 6ft 8in will only enhance any attack like ours. He’s a great kid and driven to improve. He swings the ball and always asks questions, bowling a full length. He’s invaluable with the bat too – a massive asset for the side,” he added.
