'Time has come to write bolder scripts with blue ink' - Gautam Gambhir's emotional farewell message to KKR

India National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir shared a farewell video for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after he joined the national team. He came up with an emotional message, saying that it’s time he should do something special for the nation.

Gautam Gambhir has ended his association with the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders. This comes after he was appointed as the head coach of the India National Cricket Team. Joining the team means, as per BCCI’s policy, that he cannot perform a role with another team apart from the India team.

Gautam Gambhir, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders to two titles in 2012 and 2014, was roped in as a mentor of the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024. However, he didn’t take long to make an impact as in his first season as mentor KKR won their third IPL title.

Since the last few seasons, Kolkata Knight Riders have struggled to get going and the presence of Gautam Gambhir changed the fortunes of the team. The mentor of the team brought in a fearless attitude in the players and completely changed the way how they played their cricket.

But his presence was restricted to only one year and he will now be joining the Indian team. This means the mentor’s post in the Kolkata Knight Riders is now vacant as Gautam Gambhir left the team, leaving behind a great legacy.

Gautam Gambhir talked about his love with Kolkata and depicted his emotions in poetry. Speaking in a video posted on his Twitter account, he explained:

“I smile when you smile. I cry when you cry. I win when you win. I lose when you lose. I dream when you dream. I achieve when you achieve. I believe in you and I've become with you. I am you Kolkata. I'm just one of you. I know your struggles and I know where it hurts. Rejections have crushed me but like you, I wake up embracing hope. I get beaten every day but like you, I'm yet to be defeated. They tell me to be popular. I tell them to be a winner.

“I am your Kolkata. I'm just one of you. This Kolkata air talks to me. The sounds, the streets, the udders, the traffic jams, they all convey how you feel. I hear what you say but I know what you mean. I know you're emotional, and so am I. I know you're demanding, so am I.”

Gautam Gambhir further recited his bond, saying that it’s time for them to write bigger and bolder scripts not in purple ink but in that blue. He concluded by urging fans to unite and do something special for India. He elaborated:

“Kolkata, we are a bond, we are a story, we are a team. And now the time has come when we have to create some legacies together. The time has come when we have to write some bigger and bolder scripts. The script is not with purple ink but in that blue, the treasured Indian blue.

“As we both take our fresh cards, we promise each other that we will never walk alone. It will always be shoulder to shoulder and in hand. It will all be for that tricolour. It will all be about our India.”
