While many children like to follow their parents in their professional lives, cricketers’ children are also not much different. In the long cricket history, we have seen many cricket families where many generations, including father and son, have followed this sports in serious level.
T20 cricket is very new, which was officially born in 2003. Even though the T20 cricket is more than 17-year-old, we have already experienced a few father and sons involvement in this shortest format.
Here we are talking about top 5 father and son duos who have played T20 cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar
Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar made his T20 debut during India’s first ever T20I match (against South Africa at Johannesburg on 1st December 2006) and it was his only T20I match where he scored 10 runs and picked up only wicket. However, till 2013, Sachin played 96 T20s, mostly for his IPL team Mumbai Indians (91 T20s), where he scored 2797 runs (average 32.90; strike-rate 121.08), including one century and 16 half-centuries.
Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar is a left-arm pacer and left-handed batsman. After making his T20 debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020/21, the 21-year-old has played only two T20Is, where he has scored 3 runs and took 2 wickets. Most recently, Mumbai Indians have bought Arjun Tendulkar for his base price (INR 20 lakh) in the IPL 2021 auction.
Makhaya Ntini and Thando Ntini
Former South African fast bowler Makhaya Ntini played 10 T20Is (2005-2011) where he took 6 wickets. Meanwhile, the former Proteas pacer appeared in 60 T20s between 2004 and 2012, including in the IPL 2008 (for Chennai Super Kings), and picked up 63 wickets.
The 20-year-old right-arm fast bowler Thando Ntini made his T20 debut in 2018 during the Africa T20 Cup. He has taken 5 wickets in 7 T20 matches.
Darren Lehmann and Jake Lehmann
Former Australian cricketer Darren Lehmann, who also coached the Australian national cricket team, never experienced a T20I match as a player. However, in his late career, he played 17 T20s (2006-2008), including appearing in the inaugural IPL edition serving for Rajasthan Royals. During his 17 T20s, Darren scored 381 runs (average 29.30; strike-rate 117.95), including his highest score of 48 and also took 11 wickets.
Darren Lehmann’s son, the 28-year-old Jake Lehmann has played 30 T20 matches till the date after making his T20 debut in January 2016 during the BBL 20115/16. After his 30 T20s, the left-handed batsman Jake has scored 267 runs (average 12.71; strike-rate 108.97), including his highest score of 46. Also, as a left-arm spinner, Jake has also got one T20 wicket.
Moin Khan and Azam Khan
The former Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Moin Khan was one of greatest wicket-keepers in international cricket history. Though Moin didn’t play a T20 international match, he experienced 5 T20s in 2005, where the wicket-keeper batsman scored 221 runs (average 44.20; strike-rate 156.73), including becoming the first Pakistan batsman to score a T20 century (112). While Moin Khan scored his only T20 century on his T20 debut match, he also became the first cricketer in history to score a century on T20 debut.
Just like his father, the 22-year-old son Azam Khan is also a wicket-keeper batsman. Since his T20 cricket debut during PSL 2019, Azam has played 31 T20 matches, where the right-handed batsman has scored 645 runs (average 24.80; strike-rate 159.65), including 4 half-centuries.
Dominic Cork and Greg Cork
Former England cricketer Dominic Cork, who was a right-arm pacer and right-handed lower-order batsman, also never experienced a T20I match, but he played 82 T20 matches between 2003 and 2011. In his T20 career, Dominic picked up 73 wickets.
On the other hand, Dominic Cork’s son Greg Cork made his T20 debut in 2014. After playing 10 T20s till 2015, Greg Cork has taken 8 wickets.
