New Zealand left-arm seamer Trent Boult is keen to return to the Indian Premier League for its UAE leg and finish off the campaign for the Mumbai Indians.

The 14th season of the Indian Premier League was suspended for an indefinite period of time by the Board of Control for Cricket in India last month after multiple Covid positive cases rocked four out of the eight franchises.

Last week, the BCCI, after its Special General Meeting announced that the remaining 31 games of the 2021 season will be played in the United Arab Emirates in the month of September.

“Looks like the IPL is moving forward to the UAE, where it ran very nicely last year. So if I get the chance, I’ll be looking forward to finishing that campaign off nicely,” said Boult as quoted by ANI.

Boult conceded that things escalated pretty quickly during the last few days of the IPL.

“I suppose things obviously escalated pretty quickly over there. I decided to come home and get a bit of time with my family. Very grateful in the first place to be involved in the IPL to get an opportunity to play on that stage. What happened was very unfortunate; I’m glad that I got out safely and can move forward now,” added Trent Boult.

Trent Boult returned home after the IPL was called off and in a bid to spend some time with his family, he did not travel with the New Zealand contingent for the two-match series against England and the WTC final against India.

While he was expected to miss the first Test against England at Lord’s, it has now emerged that he will not take part in the second Test as well as the Kiwis aim to keep their premier pacer fresh ahead of the marquee final against India.

As far as Trent Boult’s performance in IPL 2021 is concerned, the left-arm seamer claimed 8 wickets in 7 outings at an average of 27.87 and an economy rate of 8.46. If he does feature in the second phase of the IPL, the Kiwi pacer will hope to emulate his last years’ performance in the UAE where he ended up with 25 wickets in 15 games at an average of 18.28 and an economy rate of 7.97.
