Former Australia pacer Trent Copeland lashed out at Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green after Australia’s 3-2 loss to South Africa in a recent ODI series. Trent Copeland also pointed out how picking Josh Inglis as a reserve player in the ICC World Cup 2023 is not a good idea.

In the recent Australia tour of South Africa 2023, Australia lost the series 2-3. Interestingly, the visitors grabbed a 2-0 lead at the start. Later, they lost three back-to-back games as South Africa made a marvelous comeback in the SA vs AUS ODI series.

Trent Copeland Lashes Out At Marcus Stoinis And Cameron Green

While speaking to the SEN 1170 Breakfast show, former Australia pacer Trent Copeland said that he hoped Marcus Stoinis or Cameron Green would step forward with a powerful performance in the series.

“I was hoping in these matches, we would get one of Cameron Green or Marcus Stoinis stick their head above water and say ‘you have to pick me’. I’d say it’s still Marcus Stoinis to go with a returning Glenn Maxwell, with Mitchell Marsh as the all-rounders in that lineup,” the 37-year-old said.

Josh Inglis Hasn’t Had A Lot Of Cricket This Year

Trent Copeland, who played 3 Tests for Australia in 2011, also said that Josh Inglis as the reserve player in ICC World Cup 2023 is an alarming factor. According to Copeland, Inglis missed a lot of domestic games this year and hasn’t had a lot of cricket.

“There’s some alarming factors here. Josh Inglis is there as the reserve batter for the World Cup, but he’s also a backup wicketkeeper. He’s got another duck and hasn’t played as the reserve keeper a lot on tours. He misses all the domestic summer and hasn’t had a lot of cricket.

Now he is the reserve batter; if anything goes wrong for Australia in the World Cup, …say Mitchel Marsh gets injured, he’s the man relied upon to come in and make an impact,” Trent Copeland concluded.

South Africa defeated Australia 3-2 in the ODI series. Australia won the 1st ODI by 3 wickets and the 2nd ODI by 123 runs. Later, Temba Bavuma-led South Africa won the next three games by huge margins.
