The 28-year-old Babar Azam was heading into the New Zealand Test series with good form under his belt as he had registered one century and three half-centuries in the recently concluded three-match Test series against England, which Pakistan lost by 0-3.

Babar maintained his consistency and once again registered a big score in the match against Tim Southee & Co. After winning the toss and batting first, Pakistan lost the top-3 batters for a low score (48).

However, Babar looked wonderful in the middle and brought back the momentum towards Pakistan by stitching together good 62 runs with Saud Shakeel.

After Saud Shakeel got out, Babar built yet another amazing partnership with former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. Notably, the duo added 100* runs in 153 balls.

While leading Pakistan to recovery, Babar Azam scored his half-century off 76 balls to break Ricky Ponting’s record for most fifty-plus scores by a captain in a calendar year in international cricket. Notably, the legendary Australian captain registered 24 fifty-plus scores in 2005 and Babar Azam has registered 25 fifty-plus scores in 2022.

He kept batting amazingly and reached the century milestone in style by smashing a six to Michael Bracewell on the first ball of the 53rd over. He completed his 9th Test ton off 161 balls.
