Two Bangladesh Cricketers Vomited During T20I Opener In Delhi: Report

As the pollution levels in Delhi remained hazardous, Bangladesh cricketers found it really hard to cope with the game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. The welcome was far from pleasing as the players from both sides somehow braved the conditions. Though the match has been done and dusted, there is something really serious about two Bangladeshi players who vomited on the field during the first T20I.

Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar was among the two batsmen who vomited on the field during team’s run chase of 149, as per ESPNCricinfo. Sarkar put on a 60-run stand with Mushfiqur Rahim as he hit a handy 35 that saw Bangladesh register their maiden win in T20Is against India.

This is not the first time that visitors were affected due to Delhi pollution. Two years ago, 2 Sri Lanka fast bowlers namely Lahiru Gamage and Suranga Lakmal had complained of respiratory problems and that they couldn’t resist the conditions and they both vomited inside the Kotla dressing room during a Test match in the national capital.

Mushfiqur Rahim plays down issues surrounding the poor air quality in Delhi:

After successfully steering his team past the finishing line with a match-winning half-century, Mushfiqur Rahim said that he was not really bothered about the pollution levels as he was pretty much focussed on doing the job. “Personally, this air pollution is nothing for me. I was much more interested in which bowler I was facing. Playing against India in front of a big crowd isn’t something Bangladesh team gets every day,” Mushfiqur said.

Meanwhile, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly took to his official Twitter handle to thank India and Bangladeshi players for defying the tough conditions and playing the 1st T20I. He went on to congratulate Bangladesh team on their historic win against India. “Thank u to both the teams to play this game @ImRo45 @BCBtigers under tuff conditions .. well done Bangladesh .. (sic),” Ganguly wrote.
