Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh reckons players will get equal and plenty of opportunities under the new head coach, Rahul Dravid, whose tenure begins with a T20I series at home against New Zealand on Wednesday in Jaipur.

Rahul Dravid replaces Ravi Shastri at the helm. Harbhajan Singh, who has shared the dressing room with Dravid for more than a decade and played under his captaincy, feels that the former India captain will focus more on the process as a coach, similar to how he did as a player.

“I would want to see the process being followed like the way Rahul himself has followed in his own life. There should be stability in the team as to which 11 players will get to play.

“And players pool has to be big. Rahul has to make a blueprint for that. And with Rahul, I think everyone will get equal opportunity and will get the most out of the potential players,” Harbhajan Singh said in his YouTube video.

Harbhajan Singh further asserted that Dravid will be keen to improve on the fielding standards of the bowlers and build a solid slip cordon, considering he was one of the greatest slip fielders.

“He (Dravid) will look to make the most out of the hard-working guys. And he will also look to improve the fielding of those players who only bowl.

“And how a batsman can have a different approach or improve slip catching. In his era, Dravid was probably one of the best slip fielders,” the 41-year-old added.

India three-match T20I series versus the Kiwis – to be played in Jaipur (November 17), Ranchi (November 19) and Kolkata (November 21) – will be followed by Tests in Kanpur (November 25-29) and Mumbai (December 3-7), before India fly out for South Africa.
