Updated ICC World Test Championship Points Table After IND vs ENG 1st Test, WTC Table and Rankings: India and England were up against each other in the first match of the five-match Test series. The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad was host to a nail-biter between the teams and went down the wire. In the end, it was England who claimed the win by 28 runs and went 1-0 up in the series. 

England won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a great start as Zack Crawley (20) and Ben Duckett (35) added 55 runs for the opening partnership. But after the spin was introduced into the attack, things changed completely and visitors came under immense pressure. 

Joe Root (29) and Jonny Bairstow (37) played well but perished after decent starts. With the team under pressure, skipper Ben Stokes (70) played a sensational hand for his team and powered them to a total of 246 runs. For India, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets whereas Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel bagged two scalps. 

India were off to an aggressive start in their innings as Yashasvi Jaiswal (80) and Rohit Sharma (24) added 80 runs for the opening partnership. After the skipper got out, Shubman Gill (23) had a decent start but fell early. KL Rahul (86) and Shreyas Iyer (35) played decent hands that put the hosts in a solid position. 

But the top scorer for India was Ravindra Jadeja (87) as he played a sensational innings that helped the team take a lead. KS Bharat (41) and Axar Patel (44) supported him well as the hosts took a first-innings lead of 190 runs, ending the innings with 436 runs. For England, Joe Root was the pick of the bowlers with his four-wicket haul. 

England in their second innings batted positively in the start. Zak Crawley (31) and Ben Duckett (47) bathed aggressively and added 45 runs for the opening partnership. After that England lost wickets in quick succession and were reeling at 163/5. 

However, Ollie Pope stepped up big time for his team and played his best Test innings. He ended with an innings of 196 runs that put England in the dominating position in the game. The visitors ended with a total of 420 runs, setting India a target of 231 runs to chase. Jasprit Bumrah was the star for the home side with the ball as he picked 4 wickets. 

India were off to a watchful start in the chase. Yashasvi Jaiswal (15) and Rohit Sharma (39) added 42 runs for the opening partnership. But the wicket of Jaiswal opened the gates for the opposition as they removed Shubman Gill for a duck and soon Sharma perished as well. 

KL Rahul (22), Axar Patel (17), and Shreyas Iyer (13) couldn’t make an impact as England bowlers were all over the batters. The hosts were reeling at 119/7 when Ravichandran Ashwin (28) and KS Bharat (28) joined hands together and added 57 runs together. 

But it was Tom Hartley’s show with the ball as he grabbed 7 wickets with the ball and helped England bundle out India for 202 runs. They won the game by the margin of 28 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.

ICC World Test Championship Points Table After India vs England 1st Test saw India getting dropped to the No.5 spot after the 28-run loss. England despite the loss stayed at the No.8 spot. South Africa are second with New Zealand in 3rd.
