The USA Under-19 cricket team, on Monday (August 14), became the first Under-19 team to breach the 500-run mark as they inflicted a humiliating defeat on Argentina in the ongoing ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier.

The Argentine bowlers looked clueless as the USA batters took them to the cleaners at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club, Toronto. USA Under-19 posted a mammoth 515/8 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first.

Openers Prannav Chettipalayam and Bhavya Mehta laid the platform for the big total by adding 115 runs for the first wicket. Chettipalayam was the aggressor during the stand as he smashed 61 runs off just 43 balls before being run out. The breakthrough, however, did not bring any respite for Argentina’s Under-19 team.

After Chettipalayam’s departure, Mehta and Rishi Ramesh sent the Argentina players on a leather hunt. Both the batsmen went on to complete their centuries and shared a huge partnership of 211 runs for the second wicket. Mehta scored 136 runs from 91 balls with the help of 14 fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Ramesh’s 100-run knock came off just 59 balls and was studded with 13 fours and a couple of sixes.

Ramesh now holds the record for USA’s fastest century at U19 level as he reached the landmark in just 58 balls. The record was previously held by Steven Taylor who scored a 70-ball hundred against Namibia in 2011. The 211-run stand between Mehta and Ramesh is also the highest partnership in USA Under-19 history.

The middle-order batsmen then made the most of the solid platform set by the top three. Arjun Mahesh smashed 67 off just 44 balls while Amogh Arepally scored 48 runs from 30 balls. Utkarsh Srivastava’s 45 runs came off just 22 balls as the USA Under-19 team breached the 500-run mark. The USA Under-19’s innings was studded with 57 fours and eight sixes.

After the poor show with the ball, the Argentina Under-19 failed to do well with the bat too. Aarin Nadkarni starred with the ball for USA Under-19, taking 6 for 21 in six overs. Aryan Satheesh picked up 2 wickets while  Aryan Batra and Parth Patel claimed one wicket each.
