Indian Cricket Team’s turbulent wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant had a terrifying accident on 30th December (Friday). Pant’s Mercedes SUV crashed into a divider where he was heading back to his hometown Roorkee. He was rescued by a  bus driver and others.

Rishabh Pant is not a part of the Sri Lanka white ball leg starting from 3rd January (Tuesday). The batter was scheduled to go to the NCA for Strength & Conditioning for the much anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy. The batter is out of danger and he has injuries on his knees & wrist and some cuts on his forehead.

Haridwar senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ajai Singh was having an interaction with the media and was asked whether Rishabh Pant was driving a car furiously or was drunk. “We have checked eight to 10-speed cameras from the Uttar Pradesh border to the accident spot in Narsan, the cricketer’s car didn’t cross the speed limit which is 80 km per hour on that national highway. In the CCTV footage, the car appears to be at a high speed because it went into the air after hitting the divider. Our technical team also inspected the accident site. We didn’t find anything that suggests overspeeding by the cricketer.” said Ajai Singh.

“If he would have been drunk, how could he drive 200 km from Delhi and not meet any accident for such a long distance? The doctor who gave him first aid at the Roorkee hospital also stated he was completely normal. That’s why he was able to successfully pull himself out of the car. Anybody drunk would not have been able to get out of the car.” he added.

Conundrum for Management

It is assumed that Pant would require several weeks to get fit. The left-handed batter has been a vital cog in the Indian setup where he has the knack of changing the complexion of a match in a couple of overs time. It won’t be wrong to say that finding a like-for-like replacement would be tough.

There are chances that India may bring back Saha into the frame as he is immensely experienced. Australia Tests would be a massive challenge as they would not only be eyeing revenge for their home defeats in the 2018 & 2020 tours but would be keen to end the drought of 19 years as they haven’t won Test Series in India since 2004.
