Uttar Pradesh is all set to get a brand-new international cricket stadium. The stadium is reportedly set to be built in the spiritual city of Varanasi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation for the same.

Uttar Pradesh already has two international stadiums – Green Park Stadium in Kanpur and Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Varanasi will be the third major cricket stadium in the state. As per media reports, the state government has already bought land measuring 31 acres in the Rajatalab area of Varanasi for the stadium.

The venue will be a cricketing powerhouse with a state-of-the-art stadium, equipped with cutting-edge facilities. As per Hindi news outlet Dainik Jagran, an approximate sum of ₹350 crore will be spent on the construction of the stadium. The venue will have seven pitches and is expected to accommodate 30,000 spectators at a time.

Lord Shiva-themed international cricket stadium in Varanasi:

Varanasi is one of the most important spiritual centers of Hindus and is famous for the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, devoted to Lord Shiva. Located on the banks of the river Ganges, Varanasi is also one of the oldest continually inhabited cities. And the new cricket stadium will make sure to highlight the cultural aspect of the city.

According to the report, the theme of the stadium will be based on Lord Shiva. The entire stadium will have a crescent-shaped roof – that crowns the Hindu God while the floodlights will be designed like his weapon, a trident. On the other hand, the entrance and the lounge will resemble Lord Shiva’s damru while the exterior of the arena will feature huge motifs of wood apple leaves in metallic frames.

PM Modi is set to lay the foundation for the project on Saturday (September 23). The event will also be attended by a number of Indian cricket greats such as Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Ravi Shastri. The likes of BCCI president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, and vice-president Rajeev Shukla will also be present at the event.
