The cricketing world was taken aback a few days ago when they saw a viral video of Vinod Kambli struggling to stand on his feet while he was out and about in the market.
The video went viral and people seemed concerned about his health. There were several kinds of questions thrown about his well-being as well.
In the video, Kambli seemed to struggle to stand on his feet and was seen taking the help of a motorbike to stand upright. Later on, two to three people helped him stand up and get into the market as well. The former Indian batter has been struggling with health issues for a decade. He even suffered a major heart attack in 2013 despite undergoing an angioplasty to clear his two blocked arteries.
However, a recent report from Hindustan Times said that Kambli's childhood friend and former umpire Marcus assured of his well-being and even confirmed that the viral video is outdated. He told them not to believe what is circulated on social media and said that he was taking good care of his health.
“I am fine, don’t believe social media, Kambli said. He was in jolly mood when we met him. He is recovering well and is in much better condition. The video being circulated is outdated. He doesn’t have belly fat and eats his food well. The entire family was present and enjoying each other’s company. His son, Cristiano, also a left-hand batter like his father, was taking batting tips from his father,” said Marcus.
Kambli had conversations with his former teammate Abey Kuruvilla, who currently serves as the general manager of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as well as Ajinkya Naik, the newly appointed president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Hailed as a rising star after a record-setting partnership with Sachin Tendulkar in his youth, Vinod Kambli made a strong start to his cricket career. However, his promise soon faded, and his Test career ended prematurely. After making his final international appearance in 2000, the southpaw continued playing domestic cricket until 2011.
He played 104 ODIs and 17 Test matches for India scoring 2477 and 1084 in the two formats respectively. He has nearly 10,000 runs in first-class cricket with a career-best 262 to his credit. Kambli has also featured in a surplus of 200 List A games amassing nearly 6,500 runs, with an unbeaten 149 runs as his top score.
Till date, he is the third youngest to score a double hundred in Test cricket at 21 years and 32 days. He is also the fourth fastest to score 1000 Test runs and has played the most number of innings before scoring his first duck in international cricket.
Fens even urged Sachin Tendulkar to reach out and help his childhood friend after his recent video went viral.
