Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has said that he and Indian red-ball captain Virat Kohli quickly realised that India need to bag all 20 wickets in a Test match to win, so they decided to play aggressive and fearless cricket.

Ravi Shastri had an amazing stint as an India head coach and under him, team India became a dominant force in world cricket, especially in Test cricket. Shastri’s tenure as a head coach ended following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and Rahul Dravid was appointed as the new head coach of the Indian team.

Speaking on Star Sports show ‘BOLD & BRAVE: THE SHASTRI WAY’, the former head coach talked about his similarities with Kohli and said:

We’re both pretty aggressive, we want to play to win. We realised very quickly that to win you need to take 20 wickets, deciding to play aggressive and fearless cricket.

“ It meant at times you would lose games but once you got one across the line, then it’s infectious.

I Think It’s The Right Way To Go – Ravi Shastri On Captaincy Split

Rohit Sharma was appointed as the new white-ball captain of the India National Cricket Team after Kohli decided to relinquish the T20I captaincy as the selectors didn’t want to have two white-ball captains in the team, so they removed Kohli from ODI captaincy. Shastri has opined that the captaincy split was the right thing to do.

“I think it’s the right way to go. This could be a blessing in disguise for Virat, and for Rohit, because I don’t think in this era if the bubble life exists for another year or so, one guy can handle all, that is not easy at all,” he elaborated.

Talking about Rohit Sharma, Ravi Shastri has said that he always wanted to establish Rohit as an opener and it was very clear in his mind.

“It was very clear in my mind that I wanted to do it. I thought if I can’t get the best out of him as a batsman then I am a failure as a coach because there is too much talent there,” he concluded.
