Former Australian cricketers Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist were recently picked as the leading run-getters in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist ignored star Indian batter Virat Kohli in their choices for the leading run-getter in the ICC tournament.

Virat Kohli had a blockbuster season for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The right-handed batter was the highest run scorer in the IPL 2024. He scored 741 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69, including one century and five fifties.

The 35-year-old cricketer is gearing up to join the Indian cricket team ahead of the much-awaited T20 World Cup. The Delhi-born cricketer is the only Indian player not to have traveled to the USA, including the four reserves. Kohli was seen at Mumbai Airport on Thursday before heading to the United States.

He's Playing Fearless Cricket At The Moment - Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting predicted Australian opener Travis Head would be the leading run scorer in the T20 World Cup. Ponting acknowledged the ups and downs in Head's performances in the IPL 2024 but stated that the opener will have a significant impact on Australia in the World Cup.

“My prediction for the leading run-scorer will be Travis Head. I just think everything he's done, whether it be red-ball or white-ball in the last couple of years, has been of the highest quality. I think he's playing fearless cricket at the moment,” Ponting said on The ICC Review.

“His IPL had its ups and downs, but when it's been good, it's been very good. It has won games of cricket for his team. It'll be exactly the same for Australia. He might not be the most consistent on the way through this tournament, but he'll be right up there with the leading run scorers. As I've said, if he spends any amount of time at the wicket for Australia, he'll win more games than ever,” Ponting added.

Travis Head provided aggressive starts for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) alongside Abhishek Sharma in the IPL 2024. However, the left-handed batter recorded 0 (1), 0 (2), 34 (28), and 0 (1) in the last four matches. He ended the tournament with 567 runs in 15 matches at an average of 40.50 and a strike rate of 191.55.

One Big Last Hurrah - Adam Gilchrist

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Adam Gilchrist picked David Warner as his choice for the leading run-getter of the upcoming World Cup. The former Australian opener expressed his belief in David Warner's potential to make an impact in the tournament.

"I'm going go with David Warner. One big last hurrah," the former Australian wicketkeeper-batter said.

David Warner had a disappointing season with the Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2024. The 34-year-old batter scored only 168 runs in eight games at an average of 21.00, including just one half-century in the recently concluded season.
