Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has said that Indian red-ball captain Virat Kohli is “miles ahead of” the England Test captain Joe Root when it comes to aggression, attitude and approach in high-profile games against the teams like Australia.

England lost the Ashes 2021-22 opening match against Australia by 9 wickets at the Gabba, Brisbane and one of the major reasons behind the loss was the batting collapse they faced in both innings.

In the first innings, England were bundled out at 147 and in the second innings, England’s overnight score was 220 and on the next day they were bowled out at 297 and Australia got the target of just 20 runs to chase.

Talking about the performance of captain Joe Root who is the most prolific run-getter of the England National Cricket Team, he missed his century at the Gabba by the margin of 11 runs as he was dismissed by Cameron Green at the score of 89 in the second innings.

Meanwhile, the second Ashes Test will be a day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval and is scheduled to begin from December 16.

Virat has an attitude to challenge the opposition, the aggressive intent in his batting is very important for a player to perform in Australian conditions. Kohli is miles ahead of Joe Root when it comes to aggression, attitude, and approach against the opposition.”

Root looked tense when he is struggling and that we can never see on Virat’s face. Virat’s body language and intensity level are much better than Root especially playing against Australia,” he added.
