Virat Kohli Might Just Become More Dangerous In White-Ball Cricket With No Captaincy Pressure – Gautam Gambhir

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir believes that Virat Kohli might become a more dangerous batsman in white-ball cricket with no captaincy pressure on his shoulders.

Virat Kohli decided to step down from T20I captaincy following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and with the BCCI not wanting two captains for limited-overs cricket, Rohit Sharma was appointed as skipper for T20Is and ODIs and Kohli will continue to lead in Tests.

Speaking on the Star Sports show Follow the Blues, Gautam Gambhir was asked about Virat Kohli’s role in white-ball cricket to which he replied by saying that only captaincy is not there and the same case is with Rohit Sharma in Test cricket.

“Same as Rohit Sharma’s role in red-ball cricket, it’s just that captaincy is not there. It might just free Virat Kohli up much more. He might just become more dangerous in white-ball cricket with the pressure of captaincy not being there on his shoulders,” he said.

I Am Sure He Is Going To Make India Proud – Gautam Gambhir on Virat Kohli

Gambhir feels that Kohli will continue to make India proud by scoring good runs across all three formats and with two different skippers India will get to witness two different visions.

“I am sure he is going to make India proud, he is going to keep getting runs in white-ball cricket or in red-ball cricket. At the same time, there will be two different guys probably giving their own thoughts, giving their own vision to the team,” he stated.

Gambhir reckons that Kohli’s energy as a player will not go down despite him leaving the captaincy.

“I am sure India will see the best of Virat Kohli, whether it is red-ball cricket or white-ball cricket. At the same time, the kind of passion he has shown over such a long period of time or the energy, you are going to see the same out of Virat Kohli, whether he is the captain or not,” he further added.
