Former India allrounder Robin Singh has backed India's senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to put up big scores ahead of the team's first Super Eight clash against Afghanistan. Indian batters have had a difficult time so far in the T20 World Cup 2024.

In the three games played so far, India's highest score has been 119 against Pakistan. But despite struggling in the batting department, Indian bowlers have managed to put up an outstanding show to win all three games for their side.

With the Super Eight stage in front now, the road will only get tougher and India will hope for its batters to come to the party as well. The conditions in the Caribbean are likely to be better than it was in New York, where the batters struggled with inconsistent bounce and excessive sideways movement.

Robin Singh backs Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to be among the runs

While Rohit Sharma has scored 68 runs in three matches at an average of 34, Kohli's figures are even more shocking. The 35-year-old has scored just 5 runs so far in three games.

But former India fielding coach Robin Singh has other ideas as he expressed confidence in the abilities of two of India's greatest white-ball players. In a video posted by IANS on X (formerly Twitter), Singh believed that every opener was in trouble in New York's conditions.

“Yeah, 100%. I don't think that's really an issue, and it's not only Virat and Rohit. I think everyone who has opened innings in every team really struggled in the conditions provided during the World Cup so far. But I think this is a different format. I mean, they have three games to play. They know exactly where they stand,” Singh said.

Robin Singh further predicted at least one out of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to deliver in this match.

“These guys are seasoned and top-of-the-line players. So, I'm pretty sure one of them is going to deliver. If not both, to be honest. It'd be nice to see both of them actually putting a really good partnership together," he added.

Indian bowlers on fire

While the Indian batters haven't been at their best, the bowlers have looked a class apart. Jasprit Bumrah has led the way with the ball by taking 5 wickets in three matches so far at an average of 9 and an economy rate of 4.09. He was Player of the Match in India's matches against Ireland and Pakistan.

Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh has been in good form as well. He has taken 7 wickets in three matches with the best of 4-9.

Indian batting is likely to be tested in their opening Super Eight clash against an in-form Afghanistan bowling attack. Afghanistan has some world-class spinners, who have the ability to run through any batting line-up in the world. Left-arm seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi is the highest wicket-taker of the tournament so far with 12 wickets in four matches so far.
