Virat Kohli Reveals What Had Happened Before BCCI Removed Him As The ODI Captain

Indian batsman Virat Kohli has finally addressed the media after being removed as the captain of the Indian ODI team. Kohli stated that he was completely fine with the decision despite showing interest to continue as the captain in the 50-over format.
In September, Kohli had confirmed that he would be giving up the T20I captaincy while continuing as the ODI and Test captain. However, the BCCI revealed that split captaincy in white-ball formats is not an option and ended up making Rohit Sharma the ODI captain.
While there were no comments from Kohli until now, it was reported that the 32-year-old was unhappy about the decision and had made himself unavailable for the 3-match ODI series that will be played in South Africa. However, he has finally opened up on the matter during a virtual press conference before the team’s departure to South Africa.

“I was contacted 1.5 hours before the selection committee meeting. The chief selector discussed the Test team. Before ending the call the selectors told me I won’t be ODI captain and I was fine. There was no prior communication,” Kohli said.
Virat Kohli confirms availability for the ODI series
Following the rumours and speculations that Kohli wanted to take a break after the 3-match Test series, reports emerged of an alleged ‘rift’ between Kohli and Rohit. Kohli once again quashed the rumours stating that none of the sources are credible.

“I was & I am available for selection all this time. You should not be asking me these questions, you should ask those who are writing these stories and sources. All these people who are writing are not credible. I was always keen to play ODIs,” Kohli added.
The Indian team will depart on December 16 and they will stay in a bio-bubble until the tour ends. The first Test begins on December 26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
