The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delayed the crucial meeting regarding the central contracts and the preparations for the England tour. The meeting, which was scheduled to be held in Guwahati on March 29, will now be held on another date.

Earlier, it was reported that the BCCI will hold a meeting with India's head coach Gautam Gambhir and the chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Guwahati to discuss the team's future and the central contracts of the men's national team.

BCCI delays key meeting on central contracts

According to India Today, the meeting has been postponed by the BCCI to another date, which is yet to be confirmed. The meeting was important as it was expected to decide on various issues regarding the future of the Indian team.

The future of the senior cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli was to be decided in this meeting. Both Kohli and Rohit have been excellent in the ODI format but their form in Test cricket has been a huge concern.

There are still question marks over their selection for the England tour where India will play five Tests. Another important topic to be discussed was about the future captain of India's Test team.

With Rohit Sharma not in great form lately, there is a sense of uncertainty over his selection for the Test series in England. Jasprit Bumrah is one of the candidates but his injury-prone nature will be discussed by the selectors.

Virat Kohli had a chat with the selectors about his Test future and the reports claim that the upcoming England tour could decide his future in the longest format of the game.

The five-match Test series between England and India will begin on June 20 at Leeds. With India going through a transitional phase in red-ball cricket, the series will be a tough assignment for them.

Discussion on Central Contracts

Another important topic in this discussion was about the new central contracts list. The BCCI is set to include some new players to the list after some impressive performances over the last few months.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja are set to be retained in the A+ category. Shreyas Iyer is likely to be added into this list after brilliant performances in the Champions Trophy recently where he emeged as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament.

Iyer was dropped from the list last year alongside Ishan Kishan, for prioritising domestic cricket over IPL. While Iyer is set to be welcomed back in this list, Kishan might not be included as yet.

New players to be added in the list by BCCI

Some new players like Varun Chakravarthy, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Kumar Reddy are likely to be added after impressing across various formats of the game.

Mystery spinnner Chakravarthy has been highly impressive in both the T20I and the ODI format. He made his ODI debut recently but emerged as India's highest wicket-taker in the Champions Trophy, playing a key role in the title win.

Allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has produced magnificent performances in the Test and the T20I format. Reddy played all the five Tests of Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and was one of the shining lights for his team.
